And you are right! The "We are the world" approach to the subject of racial equity (and equity across the spectrum) drowns out the importance of the matter.
I believe it is imperative to keep intersectionality at the fore front of the discuss. I also like to think about the topic in terms of mathematics, specifically the common denominator. IMO, specifically related to the topic of equity and intersectionality, the common denominator is race.
I too live in the Bible Belt...good ole Missourah (Missouri)...where outside of Kansas City, St.Louis, and Columbia...the confederate flag (and trump banners) reign supreme. So, I fully understand where you are coming from.
