Yes! way to see the parralels. That is not progress. I understand why many affluent Black folks move to the suburbs...and if I had to be honest, sometimes I wish I took my family there as well. However, I recognize you are trading in one set of issues for another....and to me the burbs can be more dangerous because we often are "the only."
But what if those Black folks with affluence, higher incomes, and connections and resources opted to stay in predominantly Black communities? What if more of us invested in homes and sent their children to the urban schools...but carried with them the same energy to hold city leaders and school boards accountable?
I wonder...would the Black community be different if those who could be pillars in our direct community did not opt out and subject themselves to suburbs where the community often time does not want them there?
